On Monday, during the landing at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, a US Navy aircraft overshot the runway. The aircraft, a P-8 Poseidon, crashed into Kaneohe Bay’s seas. All of the aircraft’s occupants are said to have arrived at the shore safely, however investigations are ongoing to identify the cause of the tragedy.
The passengers on board the airplane were the immediate source of concern, but happily, all nine of them were reported to be safe and made it to land without suffering any injuries. Pictures of the mid-sized aircraft floating on water are making the rounds on social media. They resemble the amazing Hudson River landing of an Airbus A320 that was operating as US Airways flight 1549.
It is now unknown why the aircraft went past the runway. To ascertain the reason of the incident, pertinent authorities will conduct an investigation and review all available data.
