Croatia has been given permission to purchase more Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk utility helicopters after the US State Department approved the planned purchase on January 26.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced the clearance of eight more Black Hawk helicopters for the Balkan nation, bringing the total fleet size to twelve. The government had already acquired four of these helicopters.
As per the DSCA, “the proposed sale will enhance Croatia’s capacity to ward off present and potential threats, facilitate coalition operations, and foster interoperability with the US and other NATO forces.”
Included in the $500 million proposed transaction are relevant parts, equipment, training, and support. Two years after Croatia received its first Black Hawk helicopter in February. Of the initial four helicopters ordered, two were provided by the US government and two were purchased and paid for by Croatia.
