VARD, Norwegian subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group and among the first companies in the world in the construction of special vessels, has signed a contract for the design and construction of a fishery unit for the Norwegian company Havbryn AS, part of Strand Rederiet, one of the largest Norwegian family-run companies active in the fishing sector.
The new unit will be based on the VARD 8 02 design, equipped with cutting-edge technologies in terms of fuel efficiency and respect for the environment. With a focus on catch quality, crew safety and sustainable operations, it will have the most efficient technology to bring your catch to land with minimal environmental impact. It will be 80.4 meters long and 16.7 meters wide, with a reinforced hull for navigation in the presence of ice and a propulsion system compliant with DNV Silent F standards. It will include an advanced fish processing plant, large cargo holds for chilled and frozen products and silage tanks for biomass processing.
The well-being of the crew will be guaranteed by modern accommodation, large public spaces, a gym and quiet cabins. The vessel will incorporate Vard Electro’s SeaQ energy storage system, improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions thanks to a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system.
The delivery of the new fishery unit is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026. The hull will be built in one of the VARD shipyards in Romania, while the outfitting and commissioning will be completed in Norway.
