On July 17, 2024, Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, Chief of Staff of the French Navy, admitted to active service the overseas patrol vessel (POM) Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai . This admission to active service comes after a long-term deployment that began on March 16, following its departure from the Brest naval base and its delivery to the Navy by the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) on the 7th. last June in Papeete.
After crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the patrol boat passed Cape Horn before reaching Papeete, its base port, across the Pacific Ocean. In addition to rallying its port-base, this mission aimed to verify the capabilities of the building in all environments. He was thus confronted with a succession of situations, testing the full range of his abilities. : in particular navigation under asymmetric threat, the deployment of artillery, nautical reconnaissance raids, towing, or even assistance to a stricken ship.
As part of the capacity renewal of overseas forces, the Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai will strengthen the capabilities of the Navy within the Armed Forces in French Polynesia to ensure sovereignty missions in the overseas maritime spaces of the Pacific. It will thus participate in the fight against illicit activities at sea and contribute to the preservation of marine resources throughout the Polynesian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
An innovative building in more than one way, the POM Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai is a patrol boat that is modern, robust and durable, capable of carrying out its missions far and for a long time. It is equipped with increased surveillance capabilities thanks to the implementation of the Navy’s onboard mini aerial drone system (SMDM). Its range is double that of the previous generation patrol boats.
