Earlier today in Reggio Calabria airport there was a lot of fear during the landing phase at for the Erickson S64 “Geronimo” helicopter of the Vigili del Fuoco (Fire Department).
The helicopter was returning from a forest firefighting mission, for reasons currently being investigated, released some flames. The aircraft was still in motion with engines running and overturned and then caught fire. The two pilots, realizing what was happening, managed to leave the helicopter in time. One is unharmed, the other slightly injured, transported to the hospital only for checks.
An investigation has been launched to reconstruct the causes of the accident.
