AFM’s Alouette III involved in serious incident prior to take off

Earlier today, an Armed Forces of Malta SA316B Alouette III helicopter, serial AS9211, was involved in a serious incident while hovering just feet off the ground at the lift-off point near apron 7.

The Armed Forces of Malta confirmed the news in a statement published on their social media channels.

Television Malta News shared a video of the incident, showing the helicopter rotating once on its axis before returning to the ground, video can be seen here.

The helicopter involved in the incident was the only one of its type still flying after another Alouette III, serial AS9212, was grounded following an accident last March, see full story here.

The relevant authorities and the AFM have launched an investigation into the incident.
