VARD, a Norwegian subsidiary of Fincantieri Group and one of the world’s leading companies in the construction of specialized vessels, has signed a contract for the design and construction of a modern Energy Construction Vessel (ECV) for Wind Energy Construction AS, a Norwegian company partially owned by the founders of Norwind Offshore AS. The parties have also agreed on an option for a second vessel.
The new vessel, scheduled for delivery in Q2 2027, will be built, fitted out, commissioned and delivered at the Vard Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam. The vessel will be 111.5 meters long, 22.4 meters wide and will accommodate 120 people on board. The new ECV will be based on the VARD 3 11 design, specifically designed for the offshore and subsea wind market, including pipeline inspection, maintenance and repair, as well as the construction and installation of above and below sea level infrastructure.
This vessel will be VARD’s first to include a permanently installed Electric Motion Control (ECMC) compensated gangway with integrated 3D compensation crane capabilities. It will also be equipped with a 150 tonne sea motion compensated offshore crane to support the growing renewable energy market.
This is the sixth vessel that Norwind Offshore has commissioned from VARD, with the previous five units being of the Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOV) type.
“This new order further confirms our technological and industrial leadership in the offshore wind sector, which is growing strongly and with solid prospects. Fincantieri is playing a leading role also thanks to the success of our cutting-edge solutions. We will continue to focus on innovation and energy transition as key pillars of our commitment, as set out in the Industrial Plan”
