Island Coastal Patrol Boats Induction for Hellenic Navy

On Monday, January 20, 2025, the induction and naming ceremony of the four Coastal Patrol Boats of the ISLAND class for the Hellenic Navy took place at the Salamina Shipyards. The sponsors of the four new Coastal Patrol Boats were the eldest of the only two students of the Pserimo school, Panormitis Mavros, the Olympic rowing champion originally from the island of Lesbos, Milena Kontou, the top student of the third high school of Fourni, as well as the great-granddaughter of the hero Nikolaos Maounis, who fell heroically in October 1944 when the Minesweeper (N/A) KOS was hit by a mine, Maria Skaramagou, and the sister of the hero, Chief Petty Officer Hector Gialopsou, Maria Gialopsou.

The names of the Coastal Patrols are as follows:

P198 – DEPUTY RECEPTIONIST 1ST GALANIS GEORGIOS

P288 – VICE-RECEIVERS 2nd LIASKOS ANTONIOS

P289 – ARCH-CELEFISTS YIALOPSOS HEKTORAS

The ceremony was attended by the Hellenic Minister of National Defense, Mr. Nikos Dendias, as representative of the President of the Government, the Deputy Minister of National Defense, Mr. Yiannis Kefalogiannis, members of Parliament, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Dimitrios Choupis, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Vice Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras, representatives of the Chief of the Hellenic General Staff, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff and the Security Forces, the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Mr. George T. Tsounis, members of the Local Government, Honorary Chiefs of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, General and Naval Staff, members of the Supreme Naval Council, military and civilian personnel of the Hellenic Navy, members of the wider Naval and Maritime community, as well as other invited guests.
