Name change ceremony for two PPA’s for the Indonesian Navy

The name change ceremony of the two MPCS (Multipurpose Combat Ship/PPA) units sold to the Indonesian Navy, under the contract signed by the Group in 2024 for a value of approximately 1.18 billion euros, was held on Wednesday at the Fincantieri shipyard in Muggiano, La Spezia.

The event was attended, among others, by Biagio Mazzotta, Chairman of Fincantieri, Dario Deste, General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division of Fincantieri, Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy and Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy , to underline the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the naval defense sector.

The two MPCS/PPA ex “Marcantonio Colonna” and “Ruggiero di Lauria”, originally the fifth and sixth units destined for the Navy, have received the following new names, KRI BRAWIJAYA-320 and KRI PRABU SILIWANGI-321.

The supply contract, which stems from the interest raised during the naval campaigns of the MPCS/PPA “Francesco Morosini” and “Raimondo Montecuccoli” in Indonesia in 2023 and 2024 respectively, represents an important development of the strategic partnership between Fincantieri and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense. The two units, built at Fincantieri’s integrated shipyard in Riva Trigoso-Muggiano, will be the largest combat units of the Indonesian Navy, contributing to the stability of the Indo-Pacific region and the protection of Indonesian national interests.

The MPCS/PPA represents a highly flexible vessel type with the ability to perform multiple tasks ranging from front-line fighting vessel to patrol with sea rescue capabilities, as well as Civil Protection operations.

The two units will be delivered to the Indonesian Navy during 2025.
