German Navy joins the Malta Airshow

A German Navy P-3c Orion had been confirmed to be the second participant of the Malta International Airshow on static display. This could possibly be the last time a P-3C Maritime Patrol Aircraft will be on display at the Malta International Airshow as the numbers around the world of operational P-3 aircraft are fast going down.

Aircraft enthusiast and people visiting the static line up of aircraft at the airshow will witness this four-engined, turboprop anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft, that was developed in the late 1950’s.

The German Navy P-3C’s are part of the Marinefliegergeschwader 3 (MFG 3) “Graf Zeppelin” squadron and based at Nordholz. The Variant the German Navy owned are known as P-3C CUP (Capability Upkeep Program) – All the eight aircraft teh German Navy had are ex Royal Netherlands Navy.

The upgraded P-3C VUP had an interior modification to convert UD2.5 to carry ASQ-227 mission computer and ASQ-78B acoustics suite.
