A Marine Nationale (French Navy) Dassault Systèmes Rafale M currently embarked on the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle diverted to Malta International Airport yesterday evening after the nozzle of the refuelling probe broke off and the front line fighter of the French Navy could not receive fuel to return back to the carrier.
Later during the night a French Navy NHI NH-90 NFH ‘Caiman’ was dispatched from the same aircraft carrier with the part and a technical team to repair the jet, shortly after midnight both aircraft headed east towards the carrier.
Charles de Gaulle is the flagship of the French Navy. The ship is the tenth French aircraft carrier, the first French nuclear-powered surface vessel, and the only nuclear-powered carrier completed outside of the United States Navy. She is named after French statesman and general Charles de Gaulle.
