Two Qatar Emiri Air Force Typhoon aircraft have landed at Malta International Airport Earlier today enroute to Qatar. The aircraft are brand new and on a delivery flight.
On Monday, 15 August 2022, the first Typhoon aircraft was delivered to the Qatar Armed Forces at a roll-out ceremony that was held at BAE Systems’ facility in Warton, United Kingdom.
Last week the first four Qatar Emiri Air Force (QAEF) Eurofighter Typhoon’s were expected to depart from British Aerospace facility at Warton Aerodrome on August 25, 2022 but only three did as shown; QA407/ZR408, QA404/ZR505 and ZR506/QA405.
Departing as RRR9671 flight of 3, the three aircraft lined up as depicted and were met over the North Sea by ZZ338 Voyager KC2 RAF which departed RAF Brize Norton. ZB135 QAEF Hawk MK167 11 Squadron departed RAF Leeming to act as a photo-ship.
As it transpired, QA407/ZR508 returned to Warton approximately 90 minutes later with what was reported to be an AAR refuelling/fuel sensor issue. Eventually two Typhoons and their tanker support departed for Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos, Greece for an overnight stay before continuing their forward journey to Qatar.
The second delivery comprising two aircraft took place today, with both aircraft reported to be routing to Toulous-Blagnac, Malta before continuing to Doha. The aircraft are ZR508 (QA407) and ZR507 (QA406) made their first two legs of their delivery flight.
The Eurofighter Typhoon will provide critical support for the FIFA World Cup which will be held in the State of Qatar from 20 November.
